The excellence of the Stanford French doctoral program was recently confirmed by the National Research Council (NRC) rankings, which placed Stanford French at the top of its list: only three other programs can compete for the #1 rank in the country (according to the "S" methodology). For research activity, Stanford's French department has the highest ranking in the country.  Our program also shone in a number of other areas: our faculty produces the highest average number of publications, and has won the highest percentage of outside grants.
