Clare Lees: "Medieval, Somehow": Post-War British Poetry and Early Medieval Culture in Britain and Ireland

Clare Lees (English @ King's College London) will present her paper titled "Medieval, Somehow": Post-War British Poetry and Early Medieval Culture in Britain and Ireland. Jesse Nathan (English @ Stanford) will serve as respondent. Followed by an open discussion. Please see a short abstract below and contact melihle@stanford.edu for the paper.

The paper (an extract from a longer piece of writing) reflects on how early medieval culture has been used as a resource for post-War British poetry. Bringing together early medieval studies and modern British studies, the paper is framed as a critical conversation based in part on the anthology of poetry that I am currently editing for Bloodaxe Books.  This work is one dimension of my research as a Major Research Fellow of the Leverhulme Trust (2016-18).
