Older Nahuatl Workshop:

Join us for a hands-on introduction to Older Nahuatl with expert John Sullivan. In this workshop, participants will learn the process of reading and translating documents written in Nahuatl during the colonial period. These skills are essential for understanding the experiences and perspectives of Indigenous peoples in Mesoamerica in the early decades following the Spanish invasion.

Tlahtolxitlauhcayotl: How We Made a Monolingual Dictionary of Modern Huastecan Nahuatl:

Following the workshop, Professor John Sullivan will discuss his fifteen-year collaboration with speakers of contemporary Nahuatl from Chicontepec, Veracruz, to create a monolingual dictionary of words and morphemes from this Nahuatl variant. The project was developed together with Nahuatl speakers, including Eduardo de la Cruz Cruz, who will be present at the talk. The presentation will focus on the collective, day-to-day process through which the dictionary was produced.
