To kick off our discussion of materialist methods for comparative research (with an emphasis on literature), we will examine a forthcoming chapter by Professor Stroebel, titled 'Toward a Book History of Migration':

How is a text brought together? How is it taken apart? And between those two endpoints, how is it transited from one space to another? How is it marked up, worn down, set aside, displaced, or dispossessed along that journey? And perhaps most importantly, what stories can the material signs of that journey tell us about the human hands and handlers whose lives are bound up in a given piece of writing as it moves across physical geographies?
