"Hyenas" is the story of a return to one's homeland that quickly becomes tragic. After years away, an older woman returns home to Colobane, near Dakar. Now a billionaire, she offers to share her wealth with the inhabitants of the city. Her largesse comes with one string attached, however: they must agree to murder her former lover, a man who once betrayed her.

"Hyenas" is a cruel tale about corruption and cowardice, punctuated by the music of Wasis Diop. Filmed in a very free manner, and possessing an unprecedented formal daring, "Hyenas"remains one of the high points of African cinema. Even today, it continues to inspire a generation of young filmmakers.
