Speakers): Brian Johnsrud

In this talk, Brian will discuss career opportunities for humanities PhDs outside of academia, including in education, non-profits, and tech.He'll focus on questions to ask yourself if you're considering careers in those areas, the transferability of graduate skills to other sectors, and advice for how to think about navigating non-academic job markets.
 
Brian Johnsrud directs humanities, arts, and social science content at Khan Academy. Prior to joining Khan Academy, Brian co-founded and directed a digital humanities education research lab at Stanford, where he designed digital tools and curricula for humanities learning. Brian graduated from Montana State University with a B.A. in English literature teaching and an M.A. endorsement in library and media studies. Brian then spent a few years teaching humanities in grades 6-12, before going on to complete two M.A.s as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University (in medieval literature and cultural anthropology). His Ph.D. from Stanford University was interdisciplinary, based in the departments of literature, history, communication, and education.
