Film Screening: America, America (Elia Kazan, USA, 1963)

Inspired by the life of his uncle, Kazan's epic picture tells the story of the Cappadocian Greek Stavros and his travels from the hinterland of Ottoman Turkey to Constantinople and beyond to the land of his dreams: America. Stavros has to endure various difficulties along the way, which leads to the loss the family's funds he was entrusted with. While there are possibilities to work or marry into a rich family, Stavros hangs on stubbornly to his dream.
