Martha (Lisa Owen), a mother of four rambunctious and sprightly children, finds solace when she meets Claudia (Ximena Ayala), a younger woman with no family or friends. Having first met whilst recuperating in hospital, they quickly build a strong relationship. Martha invites Claudia to live with her family, who unwittingly takes on the responsibility of becoming a surrogate mother to the children and a fundamental part of their ongoing and emotional, moving journey.
