German Diplomacy and the Ukrainian Crisis

Speakers): Dr. Wolfgang Seibel, Gerda Henkel Visiting Professor in German Studies

Competing factors have influenced the  German response to the developments in Ukraine, including the Russian annexation of Crimea.  Professor Seibel will discuss the various concerns--economic, historic and political--that have been shaping German foreign policy on this crisis.

Professor Wolfgang Seibel is a visiting professor from the University of Konstanz, Germany where he has been teaching political and administrative science and German history since 1990. After spending time as a visiting scholar at both Princeton and UC Berkeley, he is excited to engage further with political narratives at the Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages. Professor Seibel received a Master of Public Administration from the University of Administrative Sciences, Germany and holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Kassel, Germany. He has published books on the privatization of the East Germany economy since 1990 and the role of the treuhandanstalt. His work on the ‘Final Solution’ in France will appear in print in 2013.
