Lost Classic: Hegel's Lectures on Aesthetics

Each year, Poetics hosts one workshop on a “Lost Classic,” a forgotten or under-read contribution to the study and criticism of poetry. For this session, we’ll be discussing excerpts from Hegel’s Lectures on Aesthetics. In particular, we will be looking at selections on epic, lyric and dramatic poetry, as well as the brief introduction on poetry. This will be an opportunity for us to begin the academic year by discussing a dense and rewarding text, and to think about how the concepts developed therein relate to our projects in the Workshop.
