Queer, Trans* and Feminist Reading Group: Simone de Beauvoir "The Second Sex"
Ever wonder what Simone de Beauvoir meant when she wrote “one is not born, but rather becomes, woman”? Join us in the DLCL’s Queer, Trans* and Feminist Reading Group as we spend Winter Quarter reading Volume II of de Beauvoir’s The Second Sex (1949). We’ll be reading fast and with our feelings, but taking time during our meetings to explore de Beauvoir’s ideas and their contemporary resonance with intellectual generosity. No familiarity with de Beauvoir’s work necessary, just an open mind and eagerness to discuss! Drop-ins and casual participants are very welcome.
Sessions will take place every other Wednesday from 9.30–10.30am PT, on Zoom. First session Wed. 19th January.
RSVP here for the Zoom link and to receive a free copy of the Constance Borde and Sheila Malovany-Chevallier 2011 translation.
