Date
Mon April 27th 2015, 5:00 - 8:00pm
Location
Room 252, Building 260

We will begin with an advanced screening of the Argentinian film Wild Tales (Relatos Salvajes, Damián Szifron). The film - nominated for the 2015 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and the Palme d'Or at Cannes - comprises six individual stories which explore the thin frontier between civilization and barbarism across the spectrum of modern Argentinian society. The collective result is an equally hilarious and tragic exploration of a nation at the end of its tether and a people poised to implode.
The screening will be followed by a discussion of the film, with particular emphasis on the screenplay and its multiple narratives in creating a cinematic equivalent of the short story collection.
The film will be played with English subtitles and the conversation will be held in or translated into English.
