New Graduate Certificate in Environmental Humanities
The new Graduate Certificate in Environmental Humanities launched in the Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages for the 2026-2027 Academic Year!
The Graduate Certificate in Environmental Humanities offers intensive interdisciplinary training designed to cultivate critical reflection on humanistic methods for understanding the environment and our relationship to it. By fostering a vibrant, expanded intellectual community of doctoral students spanning the humanities, sciences, and humanistic social sciences, the certificate facilitates the development of doctoral research through critical conversations with scholars both within and outside students' primary disciplinary affiliations.
Interested Ph.D. students are invited to explore the requirements of the certificate and enroll in “DLCL 304: Environmental Humanities Graduate Student Colloquium” (1 unit) in the Fall quarter. The Colloquium is not a scheduled classroom meeting time. It requires participation in the Environmental Humanities Project Research Workshop events (4) hosted at the Stanford Humanities Center (SHC). Students must enroll twice, earning one unit each time, for a total of two units to fulfill the colloquium requirement. Please see the details in the course description and a tentative schedule below.
