Weiland Graduate Fellows

Please join us in congratulating Elena Dancu and Alice Underwood who have been selected as Ric Weiland Graduate Fellows in the Humanities & Sciences. In addition to tuition and stipend support, Weiland Fellows receive grants for field work, conference travel, books, and other research needs. In addition, semiannual gatherings bring together Weiland-supported faculty and students across campus.

During his lifetime and with his nearly $60 million bequest to Stanford in 2006, Ric Weiland, one of the first five employees at Microsoft, endowed three professorships, established several graduate fellowships, and directed large unrestricted contributions to numerous schools and programs on campus. Ric's surviving partner Mike is trying to schedule a campus visit soon to meet the new Fellows. Professor Gumbrecht, we don't know how you managed to hit two homeruns in just one at bat this year, but there you have it! Congrats again, Elena and Alice.
