Christopher Hutchinson is finishing up his Ph.D. in German Studies. His primary research interests lie in German literature and culture from 1400-1800, with an emphasis on the history of medicine, media studies, music and musicality, and the formation of German national identity. His current research focuses on the intersection of disease and new media in Early Modern Germany. This project demonstrates that the rise of new media in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries led to a new conception of illness as a societal phenomenon.
