Before coming to Stanford, Rafael studied Comparative Literature, Spanish, and Religious Studies at Eberhard-Karls-Universtät Tübingen and Universidad de Sevilla. He previously taught courses on Jewish literature at the Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt/Oder and the University of Texas, El Paso.
His research interests include German-Jewish literature and thought and Modern Yiddish literature, as well as Queer, Feminist, and Transgender Studies.
