Vanessa Glauser

Vanessa Glauser completed her BA at the University of Zurich and is now pursuing a Ph.D. in French literature and a Ph.D. Minor in Classics at Stanford with a focus on Renaissance poetry and its classical heritage. Her dissertation, The Renaissance Reception of Ancient Poetics and the Limits of Intertextuality, describes the complex routes by which ancient Greek and Latin texts reached Renaissance audiences and analyzes how such mediation is explicitly and implicitly taken up in Renaissance imitations. As she shows, in these instances the term “imitation” needs to be treated in a highly nuanced fashion and, above all, cannot be subsumed under the concept of intertextuality.
