Comparative Literature Major & Minor Requirements

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS 2018-2019 

65 units minimum
All courses must be taken for a letter grade and with approval of the Chair of Undergraduate Studies.
Only grades of ‘C’ and above may count towards the major.
  
1. Gateway Course and WIM Requirement 
COMPLIT 101: What is Comparative Literature? (Autumn) (5 units)
  
2. Genre Core (15 units) 
COMPLIT 121: Poems, Poetry, Worlds (Autumn) (5 units)
COMPLIT 122: Literature as Performance (Winter) (5 units)
COMPLIT 123: The Novel (Spring) (5 units)
 
3. Capstone Senior Seminar 
COMPLIT 199 (Winter) (5 units)
 
4. Electives (40 units minimum)
15 of the 40 units must be COMPLIT courses. The remaining courses should
form a coherent intellectual focus requiring approval from the Chair of Undergraduate 
Studies and may be drawn from Comparative Literature offerings, from other literature 
departments, or from fields of interdisciplinary relevance. Up to 10 units of Thinking Matters 
or SLE courses may be counted towards the elective requirement. 
 
 

MINOR REQUIREMENTS 2017-2018 

22 units minimum
All courses must be taken for a letter grade.
 
1. COMPLIT 101: What is Comparative Literature? (Autumn) (5 units)
 
2. One course from Genre Core
COMPLIT 121: Poems, Poetry, Worlds (Autumn) (5 units)
COMPLIT 122: Literature as Performance (Winter) (5 units)
COMPLIT 123: The Novel (Spring) (5 units)
  
3. At least four other Comparative Literature courses (12-20 units)
