Portuguese Major & Minor Requirements

Portuguese Requirements


6 courses of 3 units of more, 23 units minimum

All courses must be taken for a letter grade.
AP credit and Transfer credit from other Universities do not count towards this minor. 
1. Required Courses
Take two ILAC courses in literature or culture with a Lusophone component from the 
following pre-approved list:
     ILAC 161: Modern Latin American Literature (Autumn)
     ILAC 150: Music, Literature and Culture in Contemporary Brazil (Winter)
     ILAC 227: The Making of Modern Brazil (Winter)
     ILAC 157: Medieval and Early Modern Iberian Literatures (Spring)
     ILAC 132E: Introduction to Global Portuguese (Spring)
2.  Take an additional ILAC course below the 300-level to complete the 3 core courses.
Students  may choose to take and additional Lusophone course form the list above. 
3.  Electives
Take 3 additional courses from the following list with the approval of the Chair of Undergraduate Studies:
 • Up to 3 courses of Portuguese language coursea t a second-year or above (not including conversational courses): PORTLANG 11A, 12A, 101, 102
 • Up to 5 units of coursework outside ILAC or the Stanford Language Center.
 • Additional related ILAC courses below the 300-level
