French Republicanism

Starting as long ago as the middle of the last century, the rediscovery of the place of “republicanism” in early-modern and modern European political thought and practice has gradually changed the shape of more than one discipline in the humanities and the social sciences.  Its impact on intellectual history completely transformed the field, in terms both of methodology and substance; but the reconstruction of an “Atlantic republican tradition” has had a large effect on both political science and literary history as well.
