Race and Gender in the Global Hispanophone

The Race and Gender in the Global Hispanophone (RGGH) Research Group serves as a dynamic platform within the DLCL to foster critical dialogue within emerging scholarship on Ibero-American cultures, with a dedicated focus on race and gender. Led by co-conveners Prof. Lisa Surwillo and Dr. Jennifer Alpert, alongside graduate student Sergio Martínez Rey, our group curates engaging events showcasing diverse methodological approaches to questions about identity and representation. From thought-provoking analyses of political discontents in contemporary Argentinian cinema to compelling discussions on affective histories shaping the Iberian world, our sessions have attracted scholars and students alike from various academic disciplines and institutions. 

In RGGH, we are committed to engaging in meaningful conversations with Spanish-speaking communities worldwide, emphasizing a nuanced exploration of gender and race beyond conventional frameworks.
