Studies in Brazilian Popular Music
Active Reading Group
The research and learning goals for the Studies in Brazilian Popular Music Reading Group are to encourage and support the sustenance and development of interest in the Portuguese language and Brazilian culture at Stanford, to provide a space for interested students and faculty to converse in and practice Portuguese language, and to help contribute to a broader understanding of what constitutes the object of literary and cultural studies. By focusing on Brazilian music, a key component of Brazilian national history and identity, we help emphasize cultural identities that are both concurrent with and parallel to literature in its most strictly understood, traditionally textual forms.
