Russian

The Russian language gives the student access to the rich culture and complex politics of the world’s largest country; our students study, explore, and work throughout the vast and diverse regions where Russian is spoken.  Stanford offers five levels of Russian language, with separate courses for heritage speakers.  Slavic Department faculty teach Russian literature courses with reading in translation or in the original. Undergraduate and graduate seminars address world-renowned authors such as Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and Nabokov, and topics such as Russian film, theater, literary theory, and folklore.
